Choosing Between Electricians and Electrical Contractors in Wichita, Kansas

When it comes to needing electrical work done around your home or business, beyond the most basic work, you should always consider hiring a professional. During your search, you may come across the term electrical contractor and wonder what the difference is between a contractor and an electrician.

Read on to get a better understanding of who can best help you with your individual electrical needs.

What’s the Difference?

The main difference is that an electrician is a trained professional who is responsible for performing the actual installation or repairs. At the same time, an electric contractor is a company that employs and oversees the electricians who are sent out to complete the jobs.

An electrician can work independently as an individual tradesperson or work for another electrician or contractor, so it can understandably be a bit confusing.

Beyond that, you should know that most contractors or businesses primarily focus their services within the construction phase of building; however, this is not always the case, so it never hurts to ask.

The contractors and those working individually tend to focus on and specialize in certain services. As a result, it is always a good idea to look them up online to see what services they provide. You can also look for reviews from previous customers to make sure they will be a good fit for you. Speaking with friends, family, and neighbors who have had work done can also be very helpful when choosing the proper service provider.

What Does Raceway Electric Offer?

We offer a wide variety of services for both your home and business including the following:

Lighting: Whether you’re looking to add brand-new light fixtures or make upgrades to your old ones, we can help you.
Home Safety and Security: Our trained professionals can install your home’s smoke detectors. Additionally, we can make sure that your residence is protected from electrical surges, and even install whole-home security systems providing peace of mind for you and your family.

New Home Installations and Remodelling: Building a brand new house? Or looking to make an addition to your existing home? We can help to make sure all your electrical needs are met to ensure your home functions flawlessly and safely.

Commercial Service and Repair: Our electricians are experienced in servicing your business’s electrical systems as well as your home’s. Need repairs? We can do that too.

Electricians in Wichita Kansas like Jason Snell and Raceway Electric are rare. Jason and the Raceway Electric team are a troubleshooting company and enjoy finding solutions to problems others have struggled with. Jason and his team focus on residential and commercial electrical services.

Raceway Electric was founded in 2008 and has been steadily growing since. Jason and team built the business strictly by word-of-mouth until 2016 when they started focusing on growing the business. “Our company is founded on integrity and responsibility,” Jason said. “I didn’t start out wanting to be an electrician. I always wanted to own a business and took courses and joined clubs in high school to develop that passion and eventually started Raceway Electric.”

Another way in which Raceway is different than other electricians in Wichita Kansas is that they give employees the resources they need to grow as professionals. “We hire great people and provide them with the knowledge and skills they would need to open their own business but we also give them every reason to stay with us.” Jason believes that when you take care of your employees they take care of the business and the customer.

Customer service is an important value for Raceway in addition to integrity and ingenuity. “We received a call from a customer who had called two companies prior to calling us. Neither company could figure out why the outlets in one room would not work. Our team found the issue in about 20 minutes, and it was a very inexpensive repair,” Jason said.

If you need to hire an electrician, Jason has some tips to find the best fit.

You want to find someone who you can talk to, and that you can get along with. This person will be in your home or business.

You want someone that will stand by their work, and if there is a problem, will make it right, and that will be there when they say they will be there.

Ideally, you want a company that has been around for a while, is licensed and insured and has experience in the type of work you’re needing. You don’t want to have an industrial electrician wiring your basement or troubleshooting your office building.

Specializing in both residential and commercial electric, Raceway services include:

Anti-microbial lighting

Attic fan installation

Basement remodel

Bath remodel

Ceiling fans

Circuit installation

Commercial service and repair

Computer, phone, TV, and internet wiring

Kitchen remodel

LED lighting

Lighting fixtures

Low-voltage lighting

New home wiring

New appliance circuits

Outdoor lighting

Overhead service replacement and installation

Security

Smoke detectors

Swimming pool and hot tub wiring

Underground service replacement

Whole house surge protection

If you need residential or commercial electrical work, contact Raceway Electric today!

It’s Eddy Current here. A question we get asked a lot is what does “Raceway” mean in our name, Raceway Electric? We’re glad you asked! It has nothing to do with NASCAR or race tracks, and everything to do with protection. Let me explain.

Raceways have an important job in electrical systems. A raceway is an enclosed channel that forms a physical pathway for electrical wiring. Raceways protect the inner workings (wires and cables) from heat, corrosion, humidity, water, and other kinds of threats.

Raceways are installed according to the National Electrical Code (NEC) which protects people and property from electrical hazards.

There are three types of common raceways, including galvanized steel (both flexible and rigid), non-metallic conduit or PVC (both flexible and rigid), and flexible metal conduits.

Galvanized Steel – This is used primarily in industrial and commercial to protect wires in corrosive environments.

Non-Metallic Conduit (PVC) – This type of conduit is used most often in homes as well as underground. It is non-conductive and water-resistant.

Flexible Metal Conduit (FMC) – This type of conduit is ideal for wiring that has to turn or curve and is good for areas that have a lot of vibration because it keeps wires safe even with movement. However, this is not a good option for a corrosive environment.

In addition, Raceways can be buried or on the surface. Buried or underground raceways, are typically installed under flooring and are used in buildings with many cables. Surface raceways are located in walls and are typically found in buildings, such as offices, or residential homes.

Raceways help protect electrical wiring, and when you hire Raceway Electrical, we help protect you. Our licensed and insured electricians are experienced with all types of electrical work—from wiring new construction to installing electrical products, we do it all correctly and safely. We work to protect your home, and your life, with properly installed and maintained electrical systems. If you’re looking for a licensed electrician, contact Raceway Electric! We would love to help.
